NECK PAIN

Dr. Amy M. O’Donnell offers evidence-based treatment for neck pain

Neck pain is on the rise over recent years

The cervical spine (neck) extends from the base of the skull to the tip of the shoulders and contains several small vertebrae. The neck supports your head which is approximately 12 pounds and can move your head in nearly every direction. Because it has such a wide range of motion, it is susceptible to pain and injury.

Pain and injury to the neck can be caused by a large array of factors including sitting for extended periods of time, repetitive movement, accidents, falls, normal aging and everyday wear and tear. In addition, poor posture, obesity and weak abdominal muscles often cause muscular imbalances which can then cause the neck to bend forward to compensate. Stress and emotional tension can also cause the muscles to tighten, resulting in pain and stiffness.

Dr. O’Donnell will diagnose neck pain by evaluating the spine. Once diagnosed, a variety of treatments are performed including spinal manipulation, MLS Cold Laser Therapy, Trigger Point Dry Needling, and Cupping. In addition, she will talk with you about incorporating therapeutic exercises and activities into you daily schedule to help prevent any further injuries.
